Maya's artistic profile
Maya's unique style draws on cultural symbology, sacred geometry, esoteric knowledge and nature. Her use of vibrant colour captures the viewer's attention while her layered texture and intriguing composition draws the viewer into a journey that touches the soul.
Maya began painting in oils at the age of 15 years. She was initially inspired by the works of Michelangelo, William Blake, and Salvador Dali, and favoured the styles of surrealism, pointillism and primitivism. In her early thirties Maya had a series of profound spiritual experiences which greatly altered her perspective on life. As a result, Maya now draws inspiration from her connection with spirit through personal visions and dreams.
As a self-taught artist, Maya has enjoyed the freedom to develop her own techniques. Her works include meticulously painted dots that build depth with colour and texture bringing life to a composition. Emphasis is on the perfect colour and pattern and, in some works, the precise measurements of sacred geometry, to create a desired frequency.
The originals are in oil on canvas and Maya's methods and techniques are time consuming. A painting can take several months to complete.
Maya's work portrays the journey of humanity through time and the universe, with a multi-dimensional quality. This appealing aspect of her work has attracted many admirers, including Governor Sir Eric Neal, who personally organised to have one of her original paintings “The Dream” on display at Government House of SA, for a period of six months in 2001.
Maya paints to evoke a sense of joy, harmony and peace through the visual beauty of her art, ultimately leading the viewer to their own spiritual connection with the divine.
